Benedict, Bloated Seals, & Candy: Another Day of Fun

Day 2
Breakfast!! My favorite place to eat in Monterey is The Breakfast Club. The Crab Cake & Avocado Benedict and Bananas Foster French Toast are a treat every time, and I've never heard anyone say anything bad about anything from there. Currently, the Costco in Seaside offers $100 worth of gift cards for The Breakfast Club for $80. So worth it.

We then headed to Pacific Grove to walk a bit of the meal off. Meandering along the hike and bike trail is always gorgeous, and the bloated seal corpse floating near the children frolicking in the water at Lovers (of Jesus) Point was just an added bonus. (Yes, that's what you see floating there on the right in front of the seaweed).

After climbing the rocks and enjoying the view (watch for the deep, leg-sized hole hiding among the rocks near the top), we walked back by the Cannery to watch the sausage-like seals sun themselves then walk through Candy World in the nearly deserted mall. Incidentally, that mall is a great, clean place to use the restroom.

Since doing lots of walking, we were ALMOST hungry again, so drove over to the wharf to do a bit more walking around and partake of the clam chowder offerings used to lure hungry tourists into restaurants. It's a great way to eat a light, free lunch. Sometimes we even buy a bowl. But not today. My parents and sister decided to take a jaunt up north, so we met up with them there.

We had to hurry over to the Monterey Museum of Art before their 5:00 closing time to enter their Miniatures fundraiser drawing.

An annual community favorite, the Miniatures exhibit consists of 300 tiny pieces of art donated by local artists. Beneath each work of art is a small box into which museum visitors can put raffle tickets (purchased for $5 each, or 7 for $30) in the hopes of winning the piece. All proceeds benefit the museum.

By that time the guys were hungry again (where do they put it?), so went to dinner and to their hotel while we returned to Mira's for a rest, then off to Candy Cane Lane in Pacific Grove.

Candy Cane Lane is a an area of several blocks off of Forest Ave. beginning on Morse Ave. that sports lights aplenty, and hand painted cutouts of beloved cartoon characters that often look like either they-or you-are on some serious drugs. It's a completely charming display that includes a decorated square which features extra photo-ops like Christmas cut-outs for your head to come through. Love it.
